Foods that I've eaten

I was traveling in Latin America, I ate a lot of food there.

Right now I'm in Los Angeles, eating food.

Foods that I've eaten in Black Rock City.

I went to Burning Man. We signed up for a meal plan with a New-Agey camp. The food was good when it was actually served, but more often than not we were eating weird stuff.

Eggs, celery, lentils

Eventually we had to improvise:

celery red vines "ants on a stick"

Red vines, licorice

Vietnamese in SF, and home cooking.

I went to San Francisco this week. I went to Sunflower in the Mission. It’s delicious Vietnamese food.

When I got home I had to housesit at my parent’s. So I made food with their leftovers. Most notably, a fresh take on the old favorite: Pickle and BBQ sandwich. (I mean I eat that alot so, it’s a fresh take on that.)

Sausage, brown rice, pickles, bbq sauce.

This morning I made Chilaquiles.

Tortillas, black beans, salsa verde, onions, garlic, pasilla chile, queso fresco, crema, avocado, field greens.

En Tijuana

This weekend I made a quick jaunt across the border for some killer comidz. We had a few tacos at this little shop.

Escabeche

Salsa Mexicana

Rabanos

Then we went to a high-end Baja cuisine restaurant, La Querencia, in Zona Gastronomica, TJ, BC. It was incredible.

Tuna tartar, Beet-vinegar-bluecheese

Crepa de Huitlacoche y Flor de Calabaza

Shrimp Tartar

Tequila flambe

Pulpo flambeado con tequila, chiles and rosemary. Tasty.

We ate some helados at Tepoznieves. I had Fig & Rum and Tuna (Cactus fruit) flavored ice cream.

All of this was available within five miles of the US border, check it out for yourself.

Steamed bok choy, brown rice, black beans

I didn’t throw any spices, but the bitterness of the bok choy added complexity to this generally simple meal. It was a good counterbalance to the fifteen cheeseburgers I ate earlier in the week.

Filipino root beer and stir fry noodz

I cut up all these vegetables, fried em, and added some Japanese noodles for some carbs.

Same as the other, but a cilantro plant creeped up on the soda.

Elote, my neighborhood

Elote was one of my favorite treats when I lived in Pachuca ($1.12). I was excited that I could find it in Bushwick ($2). Guess what, the elote man goes down my street in E. Hollywood ($1.25).

Foods that I've eaten. Season 3.

I’m not traveling anymore. I moved to LA. Now I’m just taking good pictures of food.

Like this one for instance.

Now that’s a motherfuckin’ Al Pastor taco. You can get one yourself at El Gran Burrito next to the Metro at Santa Monica and Vermont.
